Character design projects like this are always a blast — and this one came with a great story behind it.
This project involved creating a mascot illustration for Jesse Duncan Elementary School, working in collaboration with Sabrina McAllister at Quartersection Creative, who led project management and brand design while I focused on character development and illustration.
The concept started with the “Duncan Wolf,” designed to represent pack behaviour, strong social bonds, and the idea that the strong protect the weak — values that aligned with the school’s culture. The wolf was so well received that we expanded the concept to include “Jesse,” a girl wolf character, helping build out a more complete mascot pack.
Colours came directly from the school’s brand palette to ensure the characters felt fully integrated with the new identity.
Character design is always rewarding — especially when balancing creativity with the many voices involved in a school community. Projects like this are exactly why I love illustration work.
